Copy the Reel link, paste it into the Instagram Reels to MP3 converter and tap MP3. The sound of the Reel is extracted and saved as an MP3 file (128 kbps) that plays in any music player. It works for Reels, normal videos and videos inside carousels.
Many Reels go viral because of their sound — a trending song, a funny voice-over, a motivational speech or a sound effect. Instagram lets you save the audio to use in your own Reels, but not to listen to it outside the app. Converting the Reel to MP3 gives you a normal audio file you can play anywhere, offline.
When an MP3 is better than the video
- Music and speeches — listen in your music app or in the car without the screen on.
- Podcasts and interviews — long videos become much smaller audio files.
- Editing — use the sound in a video editor, presentation or school project (with permission).
- Ringtones and alarms — set a sound you love as your ringtone.
- Saving data and storage — a one-minute MP3 is about 1 MB, compared to 5–15 MB for the video.
How to convert a Reel to MP3
- Copy the Reel link. Tap the paper-plane icon on the Reel and choose Copy link.
- Paste it. Open the Reels to MP3 converter and tap Paste. On this page the MP3 button is shown first.
- Tap MP3. The audio is extracted on the server and the MP3 starts downloading in a few seconds.
You can do the same from any of our downloader pages — every video has an MP3 button next to Video and HD.
Audio quality explained
The MP3 is encoded at 128 kbps. That may sound low if you're used to "320 kbps" downloads, but it matches the source: Instagram streams Reel audio as AAC at roughly 128 kbps. Converting it to a higher bitrate would only make the file bigger, not better — you can't add detail that isn't in the original. 128 kbps MP3 sounds clean on phone speakers, earphones and car stereos, and plays on every device ever made.
Where to find the MP3
| Device | Location | How to play it |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone / iPad | Files app → On My iPhone → Downloads | Tap to play, or share it to a music app such as VLC |
| Android | Download folder | Any music player, Files by Google, or set as ringtone |
| Windows / Mac | Downloads folder | Double-click; add to iTunes/Music, VLC or Windows Media Player |
Use the sound as a ringtone
Android
Open Settings → Sound → Ringtone, tap the + or "Add ringtone" option and pick the MP3 from your Download folder. On Samsung phones it's under Settings → Sounds and vibration → Ringtone. If the ringtone should start at a specific moment, trim the MP3 first with a free app such as "Ringtone Maker".
iPhone
iPhones only accept ringtones made in GarageBand or iTunes. In GarageBand: create a new project, import the MP3 from Files, trim it to 30 seconds or less, then tap the arrow → My Songs, long-press the project → Share → Ringtone. It then appears in Settings → Sounds & Haptics → Ringtone.
How to find the name of a Reel's song
At the bottom of every Reel, Instagram shows the audio name — for example "Artist · Song title" or "Original audio". Tap it to see the audio page with the full name and other Reels using it. If it only says "Original audio", try a music recognition app such as Shazam while the Reel plays. Knowing the song name lets you find the full, high-quality track on Spotify, Apple Music or YouTube Music — the best way to enjoy the whole song and support the artist.
Troubleshooting
- The MP3 is silent — Instagram sometimes removes licensed music from Reels in some countries. If the Reel plays without sound in the app too, the MP3 will be silent.
- It's a photo post — photos have no sound. Photo carousels with music added in Instagram don't include the music as a separate file.
- "This post is restricted" — the Reel is from a private or age-limited account and can't be converted.
- The MP3 opens in Safari instead of downloading — use the share icon and choose Save to Files.
Is it legal to download music from Reels?
Most songs in Reels are licensed by Instagram for use inside Instagram only. Downloading them for your own offline listening is a grey area in many countries, and re-uploading or using them in your own content outside Instagram can infringe copyright. Original sounds — voice-overs, speeches, your own audio — are much less of a problem, especially with the creator's permission. If you love a song, stream or buy it to support the artist.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert an Instagram Reel to MP3?
Copy the Reel link, paste it into the Reels to MP3 converter and tap MP3. The audio is saved as an MP3 file in a few seconds.
What quality is the MP3?
128 kbps, which matches the AAC audio Instagram streams for Reels. A higher bitrate would only increase the file size.
Can I convert Reels to MP3 on iPhone?
Yes. Use Safari or Chrome; the MP3 is saved in the Files app under Downloads, where you can play it or share it to a music app.
Why is my MP3 silent?
Instagram sometimes removes licensed music from a Reel in certain countries. If the Reel is silent in the app, the MP3 is silent as well.
Is it free?
Yes. Converting Reels to MP3 is free, with no app, sign-up or Instagram login.
